Beloved Pets

Hazel-adopted April 2012

Picture
Hazel was very loved in her adoptive home, but sadly, she escaped her yard and was hit by a car.  Her owner was devastated.

Turtle

Nelson Thomas

Picture
Nelson's mom is very dear to our rescue.  She is a huge supporter, she has volunteered and has donated a lot of necessary items for us.  She builds beautiful birdhouses and donates them so we can sell them at the craft fairs.  Nelson is missed, and we wish we were there to give his mom a huge hug.

Jett

Picture
Jett passed early in 2012.  He was loved and will be missed by his adoptive mom, Cindy.

Maggie 2013

Picture
Maggie came to us as a stray from the Saratoga area.  She was found following a rancher cutting hay in his meadow.  She looked pretty rough, and we got her to the vet right away to have her thoroughly checked over (thank you to a generous sponsor!).  Blood tests revealed that she had a hypothyroid condition which is treated with daily medication that is fairly inexpensive!  Maggie developed some neurological problems, and again, medication helped her stabilize and live a happy life in her foster home- with three foster sisters!  Maggie was spoiled rotten, doted on by her foster mom.  One day- this dog who could not get enough food did not eat. Concerned, her foster mom took her to the vet.  She was full of cancer.  She went home, and got in another few days of lots of love and pampering, until one morning she could not get up.  Knowing it was her time, those who loved her most gathered at the vet with her.  She passed very peacefully in our arms.

Guz 2012

Picture
Guz came to CLC RR from the Saratoga shelter.  He was a soft dog, very quiet and "clingy", with a superb and gentle temperament.  He had a cough, we helped him get through that.  Then he started digging into the kennels of the dogs who seemed stressed out...providing them with comfort and companionship. Then he began to limp, and we took him to the vet to see what was wrong.  They took x-rays and determined he was a little bit older, and likely had a muscle strain and perhaps some arthritis.  Guz had a violent reaction to the anti-inflammatory pain med he was prescribed.  A few short weeks later, he was very sick, and had wasted away to nothing.  A recheck with the vet revealed cancer, and kidney failure.  We elected to euthanize him then, because he was in terrible pain, unable to walk, incontinent, and literally wasting away.  Guz was only with us a short time, but we loved him and he taught us a lot.  We have chosen a nice spot for him, and he will remain with us in spirit forever.

Beloved Human Caretakers

Sadly for those of us with CLC RR, 2013 was a year of loss.  We lost many humans who were special to the organization for many reasons.  We decided it was appropriate to mention them here.

Sue DeWitt

Sue DeWitt passed mid-August.  She was a foster and volunteer who helped us tremendously with the hoarder's puppies.  Sue is missed, and her legacy to rescue is fondly cherished.

Mike Andrews, Milo Kitty, and Sam

Picture
Mike Andrews, and his beloved Milo, and foster Sam.

Mike was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer late in 2013. The day he and his wife arrived home from the hospital in UT, their kitty Milo crossed the bridge, I am sure it was to be there to greet Mike when he was ready for the journey.  A few short days after Mike passed, a dog they had agreed to foster for some friends who had moved out of the country for a couple of years, Sam, joined Milo and Mike.  Diana, Mike's wife, is still so gracious to us here at CLC RR, and a deeply cherished friend.  Mike's legacy of love for animals will always live on here at CLC RR.

An anonymous tribute to a loved one lost...

Another anonymous foster for CLC RR, lost her sister this year.  Her passing was very sad, as she was a young woman, full of love and life.  When she first came to live with her sister, this woman was "not into animals" much, but because it was Sister's house, she agreed to help care for them.  Shortly before her passing, she too, was taking in strays!  She steadfastly refused to admit that she was in love with some of them, but it was obvious to all - she had grown close and they loved her too.

Judy Sanborn and Beau

Judy Sanborn came into the life of the director and founder of CLC RR a few years ago while Christi was working for a vet in town.  Christi was impressed with the devotion and relationship shared between Judy and her dog Katie.  Sadly, Katie passed, and Christi was instrumental in helping Judy to find a new friend, and ultimately care for her friend over the years she and Beau shared.  Beau passed roughly a week prior to Judy, and the last years they shared together were special.  Beau was devoted as much as Katie had been, and it was mutual!  Judy picked him out of a photo book of adoptable dogs, he did not fit anything she desired, but she was firm in her conviction that he was a dog who needed her.  Beau was very elderly- and I think the love they had for each other is what fueled their last few years on this earth.  They are together now, joined by Katie and all of Judy's other friends!
