Our goals...
The main goal is to provide Carbon County with a facility capable of housing companion and livestock animals both short term and long term to end companion animal homelessness and create a no-kill community that will set standards for our region.
Although we have discovered that the best thing for homeless animals is immediate placement into a foster home rather than a "shelter" or kennel/cattery type of situation, there often is a need for temporary sheltering of newly arriving animals so they can be assessed for health and behavioral needs. Our goal is to build a facility that provides a setting similar to a home that will allow us to accurately identify the needs of new arrivals, will provide the necessary accommodations to hold training classes for humans and their pets (foster or family members!) of all species, and allows for them to live stress free and enriched lives until they find permanent homes! It is also our goal that they and their new families will want to visit often and continue learning new ways to interact! Because there are also large animals (horses, sheep, goats, pigs) in need of assistance in our area occasionally, we are seeking a place that will offer us the ability to help larger animals as well.
As we work toward the goal of obtaining a facility we offer the following options to either retain pets in existing homes or to render assistance to prevent overburdening of the only existing shelter in Carbon County:
~education and tips to help the pet owner find a GREAT new home
~advocating for a foster home
~transferring the animal to an affiliate rescue capable of finding an appropriate home
~ or in special cases, advertising and screening for a loving home via Petfinder and our website.
We provide this last service mainly to the law enforcement and municipal agencies of smaller communities surrounding Rawlins, WY for the homeless animals either seized from neglect cases or picked up as strays, but will accept private surrenders on a case by case basis.
The secondary goals are to:
~ environmental awareness
~ ecological sustainability
~ enrichment practices
